Saras Crane

Demoiselle Crane

Common Crane

Cranes are very large birds, the world’s tallest flying birds. They range in size from the demoiselle crane, which measures 90 cm (35 in) in length, to Saras Crane, which can be up to 176 cm (69 in)

Cranes are long-legged and long-necked birds with streamlined bodies and large, rounded wings. The males and females do not vary in external appearance, but males tend to be slightly larger than females.

Saras Cranes are mostly found in northern part of India. They are always on the ground, when they are not flying and mostly found in pair. We can enjoy watching them making loud trumpeting calls in concert and displaying postures with little of dancing movement. They are slowly coming to an extinction and in India very few are left.
