GINGEE FORT

Gingee Fort, also called as Senji Fort, is one of the beautiful forts in Tamil Nadu. Spanning over three hillocks, Krishnagiri, Rajagiri and Chandrayanyug, this fort has stood the test of times. Today, it is one of the popular tourist attractions in Tamil Nadu. The fortifications, temples and various other parts of Gingee Fort offers a lot to explore.

Gingee Fort is a huge fort with many attractions: Kalyan Mahal, Chenjiamman Temple, Anaikulam Pond, prisons, granaries, Kamalakkani Temple, watch tower, Ranganathar Temple, etc.

Chatrapati Shivaji had captured the Gingee fort and it remained under Maratha rule for 14 years. Shivaji Maharaj strengthened the fort further and once again made it impregnable.


KALYAN MAHAL

Kalyan Mahal is a pyramid like structure inside the Gingee Fort. It is eight storied and was perhaps the living quarters of the queens at that time. It is very beautiful and it attracts the hearts of the visitors. The mahal is so wonderful in its structures and has rooms for women’s stay, a pond of three square meter, built with curved corridors, with windows, stair cases on either side of each floor. Moreover older plumbing is quite visible on the inner wall of the mahal for water to come in.


SHRI VENKATRAMANA TEMPLE

The Venkataramana Temple of Gingee was constructed during Nayaks. It is also called the 1000 pillar temple. Temple has artistically rich sculptures and carving around the panels of the entrance Gopuram depicting Ramayan scenes, Samudra Manthan, Vishnu Avatar etc.

There are also good water wells inside temple campus. The temple visuals will never disappoint you and it will bring out impressive and skilled craftsmanship and workmanship of artisans during Nayak dynasty.
