Masinagudi is in the foothills of Ooty and it’s a beautiful hill town. Masinagudi is a famous wildlife destination and known for rich forest and abundant flora and fauna. It is also known for the bird watching.

I visited Masinagudi during Feb 2019 and the catch of the trip was a full view of Asian Paradise Flycatcher, which is quite rare and very difficult to capture in camera. It took me almost 4 hours to get it in a full frame.

The Asian paradise flycatcher is a medium-sized bird having elongated central tail feathers, and a white plumage. Females are short-tailed with rufous wings and a black head. Indian paradise flycatchers feed on insects and it’s quite a fun to watch them capturing insects in the air.

Masinagudi is a part of the Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu and it is also a home for many wild animals like, wild dogs, leopard, hyena. The Mudumalai National Park has been declared as Tiger Reserve and extends into the states of Karnataka and Kerala.

After crossing Mysore and especially when you enter the Karnataka forest region, the journey will really mesmerise you. It’s a beautiful fascinating drive, especially if you are driving, enjoying dense forest all across and at times, you are the only one on the road, for quite some time and that gives you a real thrill.
