Nal Sarovar, around 65 kms from Ahmedabad, spread across 120 Sq. kms lake and ambient marshes, is a famous birding destination in Gujrat. Mainly inhabited by migratory birds in winter and spring, it is the largest wetland bird sanctuary in Gujarat, and one of the largest in India. It was declared a bird sanctuary in 1969

The lake attracts over 210 species of birds and millions of birds including flamingos, pelicans, cranes, ducks visit the sanctuary in the winter and spring. Vast flock of flamingos and cranes are seen flying around all over the lake and are best seen in the morning and evening time.

The shallow area and ponds on the outer fringes of the lake attract the wading birds that feed in the shallow waters. You have to take the boat and venture around the lake to sight the birds. It’s a nice, peaceful excursion, quiet away from the busy, dusty, noisy routine environment. For extra adventurous photography, you can perhaps stay for couple of days and explore the vicinity area and it’s quite a worth.
